That’s genuinely it: there’s no other options for solo fighters whatsoever, not even so much as an arcade-style tournament or anything else. When they have themselves in all the different positions, they must. In this DSiWare game published and developed by Nintendo, the player must take photos of themselves in different positions, such as jumping and punching, to create a character. It was free for the first month in North America, but after that it cost 200 Nintendo Points. In single-player you scroll from left to right attempting to defeat 100 enemies, with your best score recorded for you to beat. Photo Dojo is a DSiWare game released on May 10, 2010. Taking your fighter into battle and seeing the often shambling results is funny too at first, but soon wears off. In fact, creating a fighter is Photo Dojo’s main source of amusement as you laugh through kicks, silly faces and taunts, with the potential almost endless, and eight slots in which to save your creations. Some of the outlines can be tough to match accurately, creating some dodgy-looking walks and jumps, but that only adds to the hilarity. Naturally it’s easier to get another player to line up the photos, but you can always retake any photos later if they don’t turn out how you’d hoped. If you’re playing solo, you can use the DSi’s internal camera and a timer function to snap those stances without embarrassing yourself in front of anyone else. The attack names in the clips are winFee. Pirates? Fighting game homages? Robot ninjas wearing tutus? If you can photograph it, you can fight with it. These are the videos posted in a compilation from Ign.com for a game that that has enormous promise in the states. Taking thirteen photos and ten voice recordings, you sculpt a unique character and here lies the game’s longevity: the potential to create fighters based on anything you can think of is clear. I honestly can't recommend this game there are other 1.99 games on the DSi/3DS shop with far more content and replayability than this. Before you can punch any pugilists, you have to create your own fighter using the camera and microphone. No single player versus mode? no difficulty settings? no ability to modify controls? no story mode even if it was as simplistic and generic as a world fighting tournament? With its limited content the game really feels like it should be no more than 50 cents, not a whole 1.99 plus tax. Once the novelty of taking photos wares off, it becomes obvious how shallow and limited the game is. After both of those tasks are complete you have a mere two modes to play, multiplayer versus which consists of a really bad control layout since two people need to use the same system to play and an ability to alter the game speed from normal to fast, in single player you fight random enemies until you lose or defeat 100 of them. Once you have completed at least 1 character, you need to create a stage to go with the character. The game starts with taking photos of a person, objects or drawing with the Dsi/3DS camera and fitting them into specific frames (trust me, its a lot harder then you would realize) and then recording short audio clips with the DSi/3DS microphone and finish by giving them one of four fighting styles. Photo Dojo for the Nintendo DSiWare service is an extremely basic fighting game and nothing more. ![]()
